According to the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association (ASA), 2,050 heart attacks and 2,175 strokes occur each day, nationwide. Compared to all industries, adults in the construction industry have a slightly higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease. To help, HMC has pledged $15,000 to Hard Hats with Heart. HMC Principal/Healthcare Practice Leader George Vangelatos is representing the firm as a member of the Hard Hats Executive Leadership committee. In addition, HMC has committed to raise another $30,000 in donations for 2018. Don Orndoff, 2018 Hard Hats with Heart Chairman and SVP National Facilities Services at Kaiser Permanente, recently stated the goal for 2018 has been set to $2.2 million. To date, the Leadership Committee members have secured just over $500,000 in pledges.

The AHA will be hosting Hard Hats with Heart on April 12, 2018 at the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda, CA. Hard Hats with Heart is the first ever, industry specific event for the AHA’s Greater Bay Area Division. This event brings together professionals from across the construction and healthcare industries for an evening of networking and a brief program on the health impact work of the AHA. The funds raised at this event will continue to support the AHA in research, education, and community outreach programs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
