For Ken Salyer, perhaps the only thing more vital than design is music, explaining why his iPod® currently holds more than 15,000 songs. He believes that like music, design holds the power to affect mood, and ultimately impact the lives of his clients and their buildings’ users. Starting his career with HMC in 1995, Ken has managed all phases of project work on pre-K–12 and higher education projects.

In addition to his role as managing principal, Ken frequently leads the planning and programming efforts on HMC’s higher education projects and helps to steer projects from design inception to completion and occupancy—as well as keep his overwhelmed iPod organized.

“The essence of architecture for education is people—those who work, teach, and learn within the buildings we design. At the end of the day, it is that connectivity that I most enjoy.”
