As a principal in charge of urban design projects of grand scale, such as towering office buildings, high-rise condominium complexes, and entire neighborhood redevelopment initiatives, it’s hard to imagine Tom Anglewicz taking pleasure in anything smaller in scale. But when he’s not serving as an advocate for responsible urban growth and development, Tom practices the art of Bonsai. Yes, we’re talking about tiny trees.

Like his trees, the projects on which Tom collaborates are meticulously managed. He has been an industry leader for urban design and redevelopment and continues to be actively involved with the Downtown San Diego Partnership and other community organizations. In 2006, Tom was inducted into the national College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects based on his service to the community and profession, especially in the area of urban design.

“Excellent architecture does not exist in a vacuum; every building must be conceived within a larger context, whether in response to its natural site or as an integral component of the urban fabric.”
