Courthouses for the New Millennium

The conceptual designs presented for the Nevada City Courthouse competition and Hemet Courthouse competition resulted in two justice facilities that express each community’s unique history and culture.

By integrating a modernist approach with the surrounding environments, the designs for both courthouses envision architecture as civic art for the profound purpose of sustaining social justice.

Though never commissioned, HMC’s horizontal glass box designs for the Nevada City and Hemet Courthouses inspire high-performance architecture that is in harmony with the environment. The use of glass represents transparency in the judicial process, and invites the community to share in the process.
