Impacting the Community Through Healthcare Design
/ / Kaiser Fontana Replacement Hospital > Fontana, CA
The project uses Kaiser’s template hospital system as a base and incorporates a welcoming and supportive environment to help fulfill the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families.
In replacing the existing hospital to meet seismic safety standards, the new hospital will be one of the largest and most modern in the area, meeting the rising healthcare demands of the growing community.
The facility will feature a cardiac center, 51-bed emergency department, and various ancillary services including radiology, a pharmacy, and specialty clinics. Design challenges include the integration of new buildings with existing structures within a constrained, sloping site and maximizing pedestrian safety and ease of wayfinding. HMC’s collaboration with two other architect teams for three of Kaiser’s projects resulted in the development of the second generation of Kaiser’s hospital template system.
