Designing a Medical Tower for a Densely Populated Urban Area
/ / Kaiser West Los Angeles Medical Center > Los Angeles, California

The Kaiser West Los Angeles Medical Center is one of two Kaiser centers serving Los Angeles. Located in a densely populated and ethnically diverse area, the addition of a new 184,000-SF tower paved the way for a new level of healthcare in the area.

The end result required a creative restructuring of site circulation, a new patient drop-off area, and a 60-foot clear span linking bridge to accommodate underground utility easement.

The new tower features the latest in innovation in technology infrastructure, supporting Kaiser’s automated medical records system. Kaiser’s patient-centered care initiative resulted in interior features that promote healing, while providing families and patient visitors comfortable spaces to congregate. The project is phased to systematically construct and relocate departments while maintaining operations. The completed facility will meet SB1953 and FEMA requirements.
