Reinvigorating a Medical Campus to Support the Community
/ / Martin Luther King, Jr. Medical Center In-Patient Renovation and Multi-Ambulatory Care Center > Los Angeles, CA
Existing buildings are transformed and integrated with new ones to form a new medical campus, delivering acute care and ambulatory care to local residents.
HMC provided planning, programming and design for a hospital renovation, multi-service ambulatory care center, hospital entry building, new central plant, and associated support spaces on the campus.
The team is using innovative design, documentation, project delivery, and permitting techniques to achieve an aggressive schedule, so care can be provided to the community as soon as possible. Old and new are united by a shared aesthetic, and shared support services allow resources to be maximized. A curved, ribbon-like, elegant glass canopy marks public entries and unites the campus buildings. Patient rooms and clinic waiting areas offer views of downtown Los Angeles in the distance.
