Celebrating the Arts in a Dynamic Downtown
/ / Los Angeles USD Ramon C. Cortines High School of Performing Arts > Los Angeles, CA
Making its mark on the downtown Los Angeles skyline, Ramon C. Cortines High School of Performing Arts welcomes students with its bold architecture, while inside, inspirational environments infuse creativity throughout.
Creativity is paramount at this institution for the visual and performing arts and its interior environments were designed to support, and inspire creative learning.
Based on the small learning community model, four communities—each consisting of 450 students—participate in general academic classes in addition to specialized arts courses. Splashes of color tie interior spaces together, creating dynamic, interactive classrooms, corridors, and fine art studios. Large windows in the learning environments offer an abundance of natural light while also offering panoramic views of the campus and city beyond. HMC was the executive architect with Coop Himmelb(l)au as designer of record.
