Designed from the Inside-Out for Student Success
/ / Imperial County Office of Education Center for Exceptional Children > Imperial County, CA
A vital resource to the community and region, the Center for Exceptional Children will provide a unique program that will greatly impact the needs for a very specific and unique user group.
Serving students with significant disabilities from birth to 22 years old, the Center for Exceptional Children provides quality learning opportunities in independent life skills.
Value added design concepts include a sensory pathway, transitional spaces, controlled exterior corridors, calming circulation paths, and gardens. The sensory pathway is the main component on the project design and is more than a simple hallway. Students will travel through the pathway using wayfinding cues, such as color, texture, and geometry of the space. Classroom doors are clearly identifiable in accent colors, while doors to administrative and support areas are de-emphasized.
