Creating an Outdoor Space All Their Own
/ / Costa Mesa Middle School Enclave > Costa Mesa, CA
The modernized Middle School Enclave provides outdoor spaces and a distinct campus identity for middle school students to learn, socialize, and connect with the community, while benefitting from Costa Mesa High School facilities.
Originally designed in the 1960s, Costa Mesa High School is a characteristically Southern California campus.
Over the decades, the campus has been altered, and these additions were not always sympathetic to the original vision for the campus that established a careful balance between open space and buildings. The new Middle School Enclave recaptures the clarity of the school’s plan by orienting the new classroom wing parallel to those of the existing campus, allowing the building to complete the strong pedestrian axis that runs from the athletics area in the north, to the new middle school quad in the south.
