Enhancing Opportunities for Athletic Achievement
/ / Salinas UHSD Everett Alvarez High School Aquatic Center > Salinas, CA

Designed for joint use by the school and area swim clubs, the center's distinct design reaches out to the surrounding community by reflecting the unique nature of its program and acting as a dynamic visual cue for visitors.

The boathouse-inspired design makes a graceful architectural statement as it creates new opportunities for personal growth, health, and achievement.

The aquatic center is used primarily for swimming and water polo instruction and competitions. The roof extends beyond the walls of the building to create a sheltered and shaded area of the pool deck—providing a gathering space during events and for outdoor classes. The exterior envelope has a different character from the rest of the campus, which reflects the nature of the facility’s program and creates a strong "home field" identity. The view across the pool establishes a visual cue to help visitors find the facility.
