Thomas Christian, AIA, joins HMC Architects as a principal in charge in HMC’s San Diego office. Christian brings a diverse architectural background with expertise in higher education and pre-K-12 projects to the firm’s leadership team. A former principal at SGPA Architecture and Planning and a former partner at NTD Architecture, Christian has more than 25 years of industry experience. According to HMC San Diego Managing Principal Tom Anglewicz, FAIA, “Tom’s expertise will be a great asset to the San Diego office and to the firm as a whole, particularly in our education practice.”

HMC also welcomes award-winning architect David Maglaty, AIA, LEED AP, as a senior project designer. A former design director in Gensler’s San Francisco office, Maglaty worked on a variety of higher education projects including buildings for the University of California at Berkeley and Santa Cruz. He is well known for his ability to work successfully with user groups and design review committees and has successfully led teams through the design process on many award-winning projects. Based in HMC’s San Jose office, Maglaty is currently working on the Orchard K-8 Elementary School library addition in San Jose, Calif. and the new Ohlone Elementary  School in Hercules, Calif.

Mitchell De Jarnett, a published designer with projects in Europe and the US, also joins HMC as a senior project designer. Prior to joining HMC, De Jarnett was the principal and owner of his own design firm, LAMdJ LLC for nearly a decade. His work spans multiple design fields such as new media, public art, and architecture, including a large public plaza/environmental artwork project, completed with partner and artist Lita Albuquerque, at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. De Jarnett has been a full-time studio instructor at SCI-Arch and the California State Polytechnic University at Pomona and has held guest appointments at Otis College of Art and Design and UCLA. Based in HMC’s Irvine office, De Jarnett is currently working on several community college master planning projects.
