HMC Architects’ Chief Impact Officer Lance Hosey, FAIA, LEED Fellow, explores COVID-19’s impact on energy performance and sustainability in Building Design + Construction (BD+C) magazine’s new streaming show, “The Weekly,’ airing on September 3.
A commonly recommended strategy to address physical distancing is to increase the amount of square foot per person in buildings. HMC estimates that if every commercial building in America grew enough to accommodate these recommendations, the result would be nearly 100 million metric tons of additional annual carbon emissions, the equivalent of an extra 21 million cars on the road or 17 million homes in electricity. Hosey spoke with BD+C Editorial Director David Barista about these impacts, how the pandemic might accelerate the wellness/health movement, and the future of sustainable design.
“The Weekly” is a fast-paced streaming program featuring expert insights, timely discussion, and industry innovations. Each week, experts in the commercial design and construction sector are interviewed by the magazine’s editors. New episodes are streamed every Thursday at 1 p.m. EST.
