HMC Architects and Sierra Joint Community College District’s Sierra College were honored with a 2024 International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Northern California Chapter Honor Award in the Serve category during the annual awards event held on March 15th in San Francisco, California.

Located in Rockland, California, Sierra College has served the surrounding community since 1936. The HMC Architects + Balfour Beatty design-build team created over 75,000 SF of innovative spaces, including classrooms for the applied arts, fashion, and art departments, lecture rooms, computer labs, gallery spaces, offices, and a lounge area for students to hang out, and a small café. The building is located next to the new parking garage, and many students are expected to take advantage of the building and its large outdoor plaza. Crafted as a dynamic canvas flooded with natural light, deliberate transparency, and sustainable materials, the new facility promises to enrich the learning experiences of countless students for generations to come.

The IIDA Northern California Chapter supports interior design professionals in Northern California, fostering education, awareness, and progress within the industry. The annual Honor Awards program recognizes exceptional interior spaces throughout the region and the Serve category specifically applauds and acknowledges the creation of public spaces where communities convene, such as schools, libraries, and museums.
