Representatives from HMC Architects and Bernards will present at the upcoming AIA Committee on Architecture in Healthcare (CAH) event. This month’s event will be held at one of our current project sites, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. HMC’s Kirk Rose, chief practice officer; David Edwards, senior construction administrator; and George Vangelatos, chief design officer will be joined by Bernards’ Mike Funderberg, executive director, and Ryan Tauro, project manager to lead a tour of the new patient tower and discuss its design strategies.
Bernards and HMC were selected to design and build the new six-story, 163,000-square-foot, 120-bed tower to serve the growing population of Santa Clarita, California. The tower will feature a dedicated maternity floor, with seven labor and delivery rooms, 22 post- and anti-partum rooms, and two C-section operating rooms. The tower will also house three medical-surgical floors with unobstructed views from patient rooms. Strategically located between three existing buildings, the new tower provides connected functionality and a cohesive campus aesthetic.
HMC and Bernards will discuss the design and construction strategy for the hospital tower, including the planning and design strategies used to create a positive patient experience and how they seamlessly integrated new buildings into an existing campus. They will also discuss the processes and management methods used to streamline California’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) approvals, optimize materials flow, and minimize operations impact during construction.
The monthly events are highly attended and focus on the future of healthcare design, project delivery improvements, and building tours.
