HMC Architects is pleased to announce that Steven Kiss, AIA, LEED AP has joined the firm’s civic practice as a senior project manager. Located in HMC’s Los Angeles office, Kiss will expand the firm’s civic practice, build on the firm’s existing history with current civic clients, and develop new clients focused on progressive change within their communities.
With more than 20 years of project management experience in the civic architecture industry, Kiss is familiar with the special constraints that public agencies are under to spend public money efficiently and wisely. Passionate about creating a positive change in the world through architecture, Kiss has previously worked for DLR Group, AECOM, and HOK. Projects he has worked on have become drivers for organizational change including detention facilities in Northern California and Illinois, which focused on rehabilitation and improving inmate outcomes.
“The issues that face society as a whole are being solved inside the walls of facilities we design,” Kiss says. “We are not going to design away an issue that has taken years to develop. However, we have a responsibility to our clients and the public good to create buildings which address these current needs while being flexible enough for the future.”
