HMC Architects’ Design Principal Pam Maynard and Bruce Knepper, healthcare architect and president of BK Facility Consulting, will explore how their cancer journeys made them each a more thoughtful healthcare designer in Building Design + Construction (BD+C) magazine’s streaming show, “The Weekly,” airing on February 25. As healthcare designers turned patients, Maynard and Knepper saw first-hand the power of design on a patient’s cancer care experience. They will join BD+C’s Executive Editor Robert Cassidy to discuss the shortcomings and opportunities of the facilities in which they were patients, HMC’s cancer care research findings, and their advice for fellow healthcare designers.
HMC has conducted an in-depth study to truly understand and improve the healthcare experience for patients with cancer, and has released a research report, “Design for Empathy: How the Environment Impacts a Cancer Patient’s Journey.” The objective is to understand the cancer care journey by identifying opportunities to enhance patient experiences and to implement lessons learned that will inform how we design the cancer care facilities of tomorrow. ⠀
BD+C’s “The Weekly” is a fast-paced streaming program featuring expert insights, timely discussion, and industry innovations. Each week, experts in the commercial design and construction sector are interviewed by the magazine’s editors. New episodes are streamed every Thursday at 1 p.m. EST.
