Memorable HMC Project // Since joining HMC I have worked on mostly infrastructure-related projects with the exception of small office remodels and medical equipment upgrades. The most memorable has been the Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park HVAC replacements which required much more than replacing air handling units within mechanical rooms but required redesigning interior spaces to fit new mechanical rooms into an already tight building’s basement where the original building was seemingly built around the mechanical rooms, then figuring the best way to get the existing units out and the new units in without disturbing much of the existing operating hospital.
How do you feel your work at HMC makes an impact and aligns with HMC’s mission to serve communities, anticipate their needs, and contribute to the greater good? // My work at HMC facilitates extending the life of existing facilities, brings them into current technology, and prepares them for a future of serving the needs of the community. In many ways, it brings sustainability to the table by recycling and improving the energy efficiency of existing facilities.
In my free time, I like to // Ride my road bike, roller skate, go bowling, and listen to good music.
Fun Fact // 1) I am an ordained minister – I have performed weddings, funerals, baby blessings, and brought a few Sunday sermons. 2) My second cousin is “Dr. Dre”.
Favorite Architect + why // Charles Eames – he seemed to have had a good clear understanding of design which was “arranging elements to accomplish a particular purpose” and “recognize the influence of those that have gone before.” He didn’t define himself or restrain himself to any particular category of architecture, or design. He believed that good design addresses itself to a need and depends on constraints; “the sum of all constraints.”
If I weren’t an Architect, I’d be a Musician
