The City of Ontario celebrated the opening of its new wellness center with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. HMC Architects was proud to attend the ceremony to mark this construction milestone. As housing instability and family homelessness continue to rise in Ontario, the center represents a vital investment in community well-being. Funded through Measure Q, the first phase will support the city’s unhoused residents and help them transition to permanent housing.

HMC adapted an existing, older hotel building and transformed it into a safe 24-hour shelter. The completed Phase One includes eight emergency beds, 26 transitional rooms for interim housing, and drop-in shower, laundry, and food services.

The design team is currently in the construction-documents phase of the project’s Phase Two, which will include a multipurpose building with commercial kitchen; 50 additional beds of emergency housing; a health clinic; on-site administration and casework services; parking; an outdoor courtyard; laundry; barber shop; dog park for residents’ pets; and space for more referral-based drop-in services.
