By Jessica Hensler, Healthcare Process Leader

In this November’s Ted Talks, Emily Pilloton talks about designing for change. Frustrated that the design world lacked meaning, she founded Project H, a nonprofit organization to help develop effective design solutions for people who need it most. In this video, she discusses her work in Bertie County, N.C., the poorest and most rural county in the state where her and her partner are creating a design-build curriculum for high school kids.

As HMC’s Healthcare Process Leader, I spend a lot of time engaging practitioners across our firm in the Lean process. This video resonated with me on many levels, but mainly I posted this video because it talks about design—a more personal, world-changing design. HMC has embraced the motto “Design Can Change the World.” This video speaks to me about designing more efficiently, effectively, and in a nutshell, doing more with less—or in other words, Lean.
