Lee Salin, AIA, was installed as the 2015 President of the American Institute of Architects California Council (AIACC). The installation ceremony took place during the AIACC Annual Board of Directors Meeting on October 17, 2014, at Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California. He succeeds Brian Dougherty, FAIA, in representing nearly 11,000 California members.
Salin, managing principal at HMC Architects, served as president of the AIA Santa Clara Valley Chapter in 2004 and also served as AIACC’s Vice President of Legislative Affairs from 2010-2013. Salin plans on continuing to focus on implementing the strategic initiatives that were developed by the AIACC over the last year in the areas of preserving natural resources, developing emerging professionals, supporting architectural firms and improving the AIA in California. Throughout his leadership career with the AIA, he has advocated for the profession, the industry and the environment, and along with other leaders in the AIA is working to increase awareness of the value of architects and architecture.
As a practicing architect for more than 25 years, Salin has developed an outstanding reputation leading collaborative, consensus-building processes that result in user-focused facilities that are energy efficient and environmentally friendly. He has completed numerous new construction and modernization projects, and oversees the day-to-day operations of HMC Architects’ San Jose office, as well as serving on HMC’s Board of Directors.
