HMC Architects is proud to announce that Sean Rosebrugh has joined the firm’s higher education practice as principal in charge. Located in the firm’s Los Angeles office, he will serve as a leader on the firm’s strategic higher education projects and create opportunities to expand the practice’s reach beyond California.

“We are proud to welcome Sean to HMC and our Higher Education practice” said Higher Education Practice Leader Ken Salyer. “His deep knowledge of the higher education landscape and passion for creating engaging learning spaces will be a valuable asset to our clients and our firm.”

Rosebrugh has over 30 years of experience in higher education master planning, design, and construction administration spanning nearly every campus project typology. He has previously worked for Steinberg Hart, DLR Group, Ayers Saint Gross and Lucas Associates and worked on teams responsible for The Johns Hopkins University laboratory renovations, University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix, Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium, and Cal State Sacramento P3 student housing project.

Rosebrugh likes to blur the line between planning & design and create a focus on the spaces between the buildings that extend the campus greenspace network. He has always been drawn to places and spaces that attract or convene people regardless of scale, such as sports venues, performance spaces, campus quads, libraries, unions, food courts, and even the well-designed intimate spaces between buildings where important social interaction occurs between classes.

Rosebrugh believes “Today’s learners are tomorrow’s leaders. And, as designers, we have the power to shape their learning environment.”
