Our Los Angeles studio took the opportunity during HMC Earth Week to get active in our local community with the UCLA Stone Canyon Creek restoration and CicLAvia. Then back in the office, we tackled our DIY terrarium project and took a field trip to the farmer’s market!

Saturday:

Put together by the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation and the UCLA Lab School, it was a fabulous day to be outside for the UCLA Stone Canyon Creek restoration event. We helped remove ivy roots at the beginning of the creek, which was choking out the few remaining native plant species. The area can now be filled in with native plants that will serve as habitat to birds and other wildlife on campus. Can’t wait to see the new garden!

Sunday:

It was another sunny beautiful day for this past Sunday’s CicLAvia event! A 15-mile stretch from downtown LA to Venice Beach was shut down to vehicles, allowing the streets to become safe for people to walk, skate, and ride a bike. Despite the bike congestion at some points, it was an invigorating and freeing event. When do you ever get the chance to ride in wide-open, carless streets?? Some of us even made it all the way to the beach!

Tuesday:

DIY terrarium! With home-made ginger ale in our Pimm’s Cup and hand squeezed limeade (lime’s from Jim’s garden), what could make a Tuesday evening any better? DIY gardens! The LA office made a great effort to bring in old re-used jars for our event. We grew organic heirloom watermelon, heirloom summer squash, heirloom tuscan melon, heirloom eggplant, heirloom tangerine tomatoes, and herbs!

Drinks + Gardening = Happy Tuesday Evening!

Wednesday:

Trip to our local Farmer’s Market @ Pershing Square with our tote bags! Look at those smiles!
