Shweta Joshi , Assoc. AIA Project Designer, San Jose

To Shweta, architecture was a fantastic opportunity to combine her love for art with her passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). As a digital practice champion, sustainability advocate, and technology leader, she is not your average architect. In fact, her deep passion for technology, accompanied by a complete aptitude at programming is what brought her to HMC Architects where she primarily works on education projects. Based in San Jose, she’s forged connections all over the world. And she’s pioneering effective solutions to the global challenges of today and tomorrow—through architecture.

San Mateo Foster Elementary School.
Shweta’s solar radiation and illuminance study for the project informed the design to maximize natural daylight and ventilation in the classrooms—giving the school its high-performance credentials.

Extracurriculars //

Secret life //
Shweta attended the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland – The same school as Albert Einstein. Every summer, Shweta and her family hike Half Dome, the famed rock formation in California’s Yosemite National Park.

As part of  a special “Present the Future” design competition, HMC employees were asked, “what will impact the human experience tomorrow?” The top three videos were shown and voted on during our firm-wide event on May 3. Shweta produced a simple yet moving film, “Circle of Life”, which featured virtues as critical components to a sustainable future. See her moving video below.
