San Benito High School District selected HMC to plan and design a cost-effective, educationally relevant, and beautiful new $206 million high school in Hollister, California. As the second high school in the district, the new school will complement the nearby Hollister High School to serve and unify the community.

San Benito is one of California’s top-growing communities and HMC will work with the district to understand their student population growth, educational needs, and desired impacts on the community. HMC is currently leading the facilities master planning process for the new school. While in the initial stages of visioning, the team is exploring a range of programs with the goal of enriching the educational experience. The district wants the new school to provide students with various educational options, including dual enrollment and academies that provide hands-on learning opportunities to prepare students for college and high-demand, high-wage jobs. The team is exploring programs encompassing academies that align with CTE pathway sectors or local industries, collaborative spaces, indoor-outdoor learning areas, and specialized facilities dedicated to Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA). The district is also committed to supporting community needs and offering supplemental community services as part of its objectives. They imagine joint-use spaces such as a community center, performing arts center, connection to community colleges, library, and apprenticeship partnerships.

The project will be completed in 2028.
