HMC Architects is proud to announce that the San Bernardino Valley College Applied Technology Building has officially earned LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The certification reflects the project’s exceptional performance across multiple sustainability categories, achieving 81 out of 110 possible points under LEED v4 BD+C: New Construction. This score places the building just above the threshold for Platinum, signaling a high level of performance in energy efficiency, water conservation, and overall building design.
A standout achievement is the building’s performance in Energy and Atmosphere, where it earned 32 out of 33 possible points, including maximum points for optimized energy performance. The all-electric system is designed to reduce energy costs by 61 percent and greenhouse gas emissions by 54 percent. The project also demonstrates strong results in water efficiency, materials transparency, and innovation—earning full points in both the Innovation and Regional Priority categories.
Designed to support hands-on technical education, the facility integrates sustainable strategies that not only reduce environmental impact but also enhance occupant comfort and long-term operational efficiency. From advanced energy systems and on-site renewable energy production to water-saving fixtures and healthy material selections, the building serves as a living laboratory for sustainable design.
This milestone reinforces HMC’s commitment to Design for Good, delivering high-performance environments that support both people and the planet while advancing sustainability on higher education campuses across the western U.S.
