Did you know that San Diego has become one of the hottest scenes in the world for Craft Beer Brewing? In fact, some people actually claim that it has officially become the Craft Beer Capital! Over the years, independent labels have slowly populated San Diego County to where they can now claim over 35 world-class craft breweries, and local brew pubs have some seriously amazing varieties of beer from around the world…but always highlighting the local flavor and latest releases.

Being community-minded and proactive citizens of “America’s Finest City,” the San Diego staff takes this responsibility seriously and have become enthusiastic participants in the development of this new world-class designation. The office currently boasts four independent craft brewers, and on Wednesday, March 30, we hosted an HMC Craft Beer Tasting Reception showcasing the brewers’ recently released brews:

Jason Meeks: MeeksBrauHaus Bavarian Weizenbier
Billy Chundak: Unit B – Honey Pale Ale
Dave Fennema: The Elusive Giant Squid Coffee Porter
John Hoglen: Dark Horse IPA

After a very close voting process (that no doubt required several return “tastings”) Jason Meeks clinched the win. Plans for future tasting parties are already in the works with a focus on beer types: IPAs, Belgium, and more.
