HMC Architects recently celebrated a significant milestone at UC San Diego, topping out the Ridge Walk North Living & Learning Neighborhood project. This transformative endeavor, designed in collaboration with our Design-Build partners Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects (EYRC) and Hensel Phelps, reflects the university’s commitment to fostering community and delivering more affordable housing options for students.

Once complete, the project will add 2,400 beds, dining facilities, fitness areas, academic spaces, and support services, creating a vibrant, inclusive living environment for Thurgood Marshall College scholars. In addition to residence halls with amenities like roof decks and front porches, the neighborhood will feature engaging outdoor areas, a new home for Economics, and resources such as the Basic Needs Center and E-sports Center.

At 972,000 SF, the $537 million design-build project strengthens the UC San Diego campus by connecting key areas like Geisel Library and the Historic Grove, creating a sense of place that promotes connection and community. We are proud to contribute to the university’s vision for an enriched student experience.
