Honoring a Wyoming Landmark
Originally constructed between 1924 and 1927, Natrona County High School stands as one of Wyoming’s most storied educational institutions. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Collegiate Gothic complex once served both Casper College and the high school, becoming a cornerstone of community identity. When revitalization needs became undeniable, the district committed to preserving the school’s architectural legacy while preparing it for a new era of teaching and learning.

Transforming History into a Future-Ready Campus
The renovation and additions reestablish the campus as a vibrant twenty-first century learning environment—one that supports students’ academic, physical, and social well-being. The design draws from the district’s guiding principles: empowering learners, enabling inventive and collaborative experiences, and strengthening community partnerships. Four career academies organize the school into dynamic hubs that support a wide variety of instructional approaches, from project-based learning and hands-on exploration to presentation and collaboration.

Sustainability Through Preservation
The most sustainable strategy was the reuse and modernization of the existing building—an approach that conserved embodied carbon while protecting the school’s historic character. Additional energy-saving measures include active chilled beams, condensing boilers, and heat-recovery units. Natural daylight and views reach 98 percent of classrooms and staff spaces, creating a bright, comfortable environment that enhances learning and wellness.

A Culture of Visibility and Engagement
Openness and transparency shape how learning happens across campus. Visible collaboration spaces, active learning zones, and student work displayed throughout the school spark curiosity and help cultivate a shared sense of pride. Analog and digital displays encourage discovery; open presentations prompt participation; and lively, interconnected spaces model the skills students need to succeed beyond school.

A Renewed Community Asset
Today, Natrona County High School seamlessly blends its beloved historic presence with contemporary functionality, reaffirming its role as a vital community anchor. The revitalized campus reflects the values of the district and its families—preserving heritage while embracing the future, and providing students with an environment that inspires excellence at every turn.
