HMC Architects received a 2019 Community College Facility Coalition (CCFC) Award of Honor in the Project in Design category for Mt. San Antonio College Physical Education Project (PEP) in Walnut, California. The award was presented on November 12 during CCFC’s 26th Annual Conference in Sacramento.
The 622,726 square-foot project will establish a “Home for Champions,” honoring the school’s rich 75-year athletic heritage while setting up current and future generations of Mountie athletes for continuing success. The athletics complex features a gymnasium, field house, heritage hall, and aquatics center. Heritage hall is the central focus of the complex with pedestrian pathways and each surrounding program zone situated to accomplish program and performance goals. Along with a material palette drawn from the campus context, the dynamic expression of roof plans and material patterns is inspired by the kinetic nature of athletics.
The PEP is currently in design and will open in 2023.
