HMC Architects is pleased to announce the promotion of Kyle Peterson, AIA, LEED AP, DBIA, to community + culture practice leader.

Currently serving as managing principal of the firm’s San Diego office and previously acting as principal-in-charge in HMC’s Ontario, California office, Peterson brings deep experience and a commitment to building and strengthening client relationships. His promotion underscores HMC’s belief in developing and promoting internal talent and recognizes his role as a leader, mentor, and award-winning expert in the community + culture market.

Peterson will work across all HMC’s offices in his new role, leveraging talent from each studio to develop a dedicated community + culture team. Peterson will also lead business development and continue to support PreK-12 districts with whom he has longstanding relationships.

Since joining HMC in 2001, Peterson has earned a fantastic reputation with the clients he serves in the firm’s education and civic markets. He began his career as a designer and eventually moved into project management and architect roles. In the last five years, he’s been primarily involved in the active pursuit of new work and management and development of large Pre–K-12 and civic projects.

For HMC clients, the move indicates considerable support for the firm’s civic practice by bringing in a proven leader to improve the quality of its deliverables and project approach. “I am thrilled to be named HMC’s community + culture practice leader and can’t wait to engage with the fantastic talent across the firm to grow this practice and create a positive impact through our work, said Peterson. “These projects have been a passion of mine my entire career, and I’m excited to share our mission of Design for Good with our clients and communities.”

A graduate of California Polytechnic State University, Pomona, Peterson received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture in 2000.

The firm has recently racked up several regional and national design awards for its civic work, including those from the AIA (American Institute of Architects) Inland California Chapter, AIA San Diego, the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA), and The Architect’s Newspaper.
