HMC Architects is proud to announce the appointment of Kirk Rose as its new president. A veteran architect and proven strategic leader, Rose will work alongside CEO Brian Staton to help guide the firm through a period of rapid change and opportunity in the architectural industry.

Rose assumes the role following a decision to separate the positions of CEO and president—previously held by Staton—in order to strengthen the firm’s ability to address emerging trends, technologies, and client needs. Staton will remain CEO and continue to focus on firm strategy, design, culture, technology, and geographic growth. As president, Rose will concentrate on advancing HMC’s core practice areas, marketing strategy, revenue development, and client advisory services.

“In today’s fast-evolving industry, it’s clear that we must bring laser focus to every aspect of our strategic plan,” said Staton. “Kirk’s deep experience and passion for design leadership make him the ideal person to drive our practices and client solutions forward.”

With over 40 years in architectural practice—including three decades in firm leadership—Rose brings unmatched expertise to his new role. His work has spanned principal, managing principal, chief practice officer, and board member roles at major firms in the Los Angeles area, and for the past 15 years, HMC Architects. His leadership has been instrumental in delivering landmark master plans and complex projects across healthcare, education, and civic sectors.

“I’m honored to take on this new role and help shape the next chapter of HMC’s legacy,” said Rose. “This is an extraordinary firm with a powerful mission, and I look forward to working with our talented teams to advance our thought leadership and deepen our trusted advisor partnerships with clients.”

Rose’s appointment supports HMC’s long-term strategic vision, which includes continued investment in technology, geographic expansion, and an enhanced advisory role for clients navigating today’s complex built environment. As part of that vision, HMC recently acquired Bassetti Architects in April 2025, extending the firm’s reach into the Pacific Northwest and strengthening its leadership in educational and civic design. This expansion reflects HMC’s ongoing commitment to shaping inclusive, future-forward spaces that serve the evolving needs of communities across the West Coast.

HMC specializes in healthcare, education, and civic projects, creating spaces that enrich communities and drive meaningful change. Recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in 2024, HMC consistently ranks among the nation’s top design firms.
