Throughout his 27-year career in architecture, Kristian has brought a passion for sustainable buildings, innovation, and progressive PreK–12 programming and educational design. He excels in leading collaborative design processes that balance high-performance building strategies with well-organized, pragmatic solutions. He is known for his critical thinking, technical expertise, and ability to guide large teams.
Kristian is currently spearheading efforts to eliminate toxic materials from specifications, improve integrated design processes, and enhance daylighting strategies. As part of HMC’s AIA 2030 Commitment, he helps oversee the collection and reporting of energy performance data. Kristian has partnerships with the University of Washington’s Center for Integrated Design and Portland State University’s BUILT Building Science Lab, and he holds a leadership role on the UW Department of Architecture’s Professionals Advisory Council.
