Henderson Hospital was recognized with the Award of Distinction from the Design-Build Institute of America’s (DBIA) Western Pacific Region 2017 Design Build Awards. Winners of the Distinction Award successfully analyze design-build strategies, resulting in a unique application of teaming to exceed the owner’s needs.
The design-build team consisted of the owner, contractors, HMC Architects and several trade partners. The use of both prefabrication and on-site place modular construction sped up the error-free construction process. Designed and constructed in a swift 27 months, the facility was one of the fastest hospitals built in the western U.S.
Patient satisfaction was key. Smart acoustic design was implemented in patient areas to provide a tranquil environment. We also incorporated silver ion-infused countertops in patient care areas and antimicrobial coatings on door handles to further promote the well-being of patients and to reduce the spread of bacteria.
We found it necessary to take a step further and bring new technology into various rooms of the hospital. The built-in narrow spectrum infection-control lighting proves to be more than just an innovative focal point; it also promotes patients’ safety. Featured in treatment rooms and operating rooms, the indigo lighting provides “the safest most infection free care environments possible,” according to Steve Wilson, Principal at HMC Architects.
Home to the new Union Village, the facility brings immense value to the growing Southern Nevada community, providing a 214-acute healthcare facility that offers emergency care, women’s services, surgical services, and comprehensive care.
