HMC Architects has been named by Zweig Group as a winner of the 2019 Best Firms To Work For Awards, which honors outstanding workplaces at Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) firms.

The award, which has recognized HMC for its ability to inspire its teams to perform at the highest levels, is based on evaluations from its own employees and not an independent party.

Firms were evaluated comprehensively on firm culture, workplace practices, employee benefits, employee retention rates, professional development, and more – from both management and staff perspective. Awards were given in multiple categories based on firm size and discipline. This is the first year Zweig Group has categorized by firm size.

“Being named as a national Best Firm To Work For is a powerful statement,” said Zweig Group CEO Chad Clinehens. “With recruiting and retention being the number one challenge for AEC firms, this award provides a great platform to promote culture and employee experience, offering these firms a strong competitive advantage.”

Based on employee feedback, HMC has created an environment where its people feel valued, can make a difference, and can clearly see where their contribution fits into the overall mission and success of the firm.

To recruit top talent and create a continuous improvement culture, the employee-owned firm has launched several efforts in the last year including a student loan paydown program for employees affected by the $1.5 trillion student loan crisis. In May, the firm brought nationally-known author and speaker Mike Robbins to its Ontario headquarters for a special firm-wide celebration that included speakers, music, food trucks, and a design competition—all in the spirit of connecting employees from other offices and celebrating the firm’s accomplishments. Late last year, HMC was also named by Architect magazine as one of the leading architecture and design firms in the U.S. when it comes to equity hiring.

“Culture at HMC is something in which we take great pride,” said HMC President and CEO Brian Staton. “Prioritizing people above all else is what makes us successful and better positions us to serve our clients and communities.”

Winners of the 2019 Best Firms To Work For Awards will be honored at the 2019 Elevate AEC Conference in Las Vegas, Nev., October 2-4 and will be featured in Zweig Group’s weekly management newsletter, The Zweig Letter, and Zweig Group’s other marketing channels.
