HMC Architects recently joined Palomar College Architecture Students to review their final presentations. HMC has supported the Palomar College 2023-2024 architecture program through lectures and workshops where students were exposed to the different aspects of a career in architecture, including RFPs, project pursuits, construction site visits, and much more.
At the end of this winter term, HMC was again invited to participate as reviewers for the final student presentations. The Palomar Architecture program has students matriculate through four studio projects of increasing complexity while working toward an Associate’s degree. Students in studios one and two were asked to design a private residence and a multi-unit residential development, respectively. Students in studio three were invited to design a community-focused building, and students in studio four were tasked to imagine an institutional building. This semester, students designed a residence with a podcast studio and woodshop, a multi-unit housing with an ADU, an Escondido Community Center, and a student instructional building on the Palomar College San Marcos Campus. The department aims to introduce its students to the most practical aspects of design and visualization of their projects. This approach ensures that their students are exposed to the codes and other environmental factors that impact design in real-world applications and are challenged to think creatively about how to best convey their solutions.
