The County of San Diego North Coastal Live Well Health Center won the “Lean in Design Build” and “Regional Award” at the annual Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Western Pacific Region (WPR) annual conference and awards dinner on May 17. On hand to receive the awards were HMC Architects’ Tre Arnold and Steve Wilson, Balfour Beatty Construction’s Anton Greenville and Sarah White, and Syska Hennessy Group’s Jennifer Crawford and Rob Bolin.

The annual awards program recognizes the successful application of design-build best practices as defined by the DBIA Design-Build Manual of Practice. This year, the “Lean in Design Build” Award was created to recognize projects who incorporated Lean processes throughout a project’s timeline. The Live Well Health Center was the first project to ever be awarded this honor.

The Center promotes wellness, self-sufficiency, and a better quality of life for County of San Diego residents and houses the county’s aging and independence services, a military and veterans resource center, community health promotions, regional administration, public and behavioral health services.  Powered entirely by the sun and using no fossil fuels, the facility has achieved LEED Platinum Certification and is the only Zero Net Energy (ZNE) project listed in California that is a County-owned medical office.
