HMC Architects’ San Diego studio participated in a special fundraising event for Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego organized by G|M Business Interiors.
The San Diego Ronald McDonald House, which provides a home for families with children being treated for serious health conditions at local hospitals, is responsible for raising their operating expenses. G|M wanted to help the charity with a special “Table for Tots” fundraiser. Local San Diego architecture and design firms were each given a children’s table and two chairs and tasked with creating an adventure. The table sets were then auctioned off to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
The theme of this year’s fundraiser was “Turn Up the Music” and the HMC San Diego team created “Rock and Roll”, a set that features a recreational space for children to play and create sound and music with movement. Children are invited to sit and “rock” with two rocking chairs and “roll” in the human-scale hamster wheel. The entire San Diego studio brought the set to life beginning with lunchtime brainstorming sessions to imagine the set and many late, after-work hours constructing it.
On August 15, HMC joined other San Diego design firms for a special evening at Francis Parker School in San Diego. By the end of the night, the children in attendance mixed and match props from the different sets, adding their own touch on each design. This year’s fundraiser raised $1,500 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. To learn more about the fundraiser and see a video from the event, visit the event’s website.
