HMC Architects is committed to mentoring the next generation of architects and helping students advance in the architecture industry. HMC’s Project Designer Shweta Joshi joined Chabot College’s architecture students to critique their final project presentations.
HMC assisted students with designing sustainable housing projects. Students were tasked to consider unique site and climatic conditions to create multiple dwellings of various sizes. In developing their projects, students learned not just about design but topics such as social impact, utilization of small spaces, and design innovation. “Students put a lot of effort into designing these buildings as well as their final presentations,” said Shweta. “Seeing physical models of process and the final project was delightful. I enjoyed providing feedback on design ideas and the sustainability aspects of the projects. It was also fascinating to see students taking advantage of digital fabrication to explore different design iterations.”
As a 100 percent employee-owned firm, HMC team members are deeply invested in their communities. The HMC Architects Designing Futures Foundation Bridge to College program provides unrestricted philanthropic grants to support community college students who aspire to careers in architecture, engineering, and related fields. HMC and the DFF are proud supporters of Chabot College in Hayward, California, and have leveraged their impact through volunteerism and community engagement.
