We are thrilled to announce that Angel Hosband was recently promoted to managing principal in our Ontario office. Angel has nearly 30 years of architectural experience in the design and construction of education, healthcare, retail, and commercial projects. We recently sat down with her to discuss her new position and what she hopes to accomplish.
How long have you worked at HMC, what is your expertise, and what types of projects have you worked on?
I have been with HMC for more than 20 years and primarily work on K-12 projects, with a main focus on high schools. I enjoy high school projects because they are the most complicated and involve a fair amount of problem solving for our clients. I’m currently working on Portola High School with Irvine Unified School District, which is the largest high school project HMC has ever done from ground up.
Tell us about your new role and objectives.
As managing principal for our K-12 practice in Ontario, my objectives include ensuring that projects are sufficiently staffed, client goals are met, and that staff are happy and growing in their careers. To help with the latter objective, one of my goals when taking on this new role was to start an Ontario K-12 mentorship program. The program has since launched with different groups created that focus on specific areas of interest. Staff can decide which group excites them the most and then set goals and a timeframe for what they want to achieve.
What value do you bring to HMC clients in your new role?
Because my main focus is managing internally, I have a direct interaction with all the employees in my studio. By helping them grow to be better architects, our clients will benefit from better projects and better service. In addition to an internal focus, I will continue to ensure that our projects are being managed effectively, projects are delivered on time and within budget, clients are happy, and that communities have projects that they feel proud of.
How can you help our clients overcome their challenges?
With all of my many years of experience working on various types of K-12 projects, I have encountered numerous challenges throughout the course of my career. I feel confident in being able to draw upon this past experience when facing future challenges and develop creative solutions to work around them. One of my strengths is creative problem solving and if I don’t know the answer, I will find someone who can help me solve the problem.
What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered for having a positive impact on the atmosphere of our studio, and even influencing the culture of the entire firm. Whether it’s through projects, volunteering, or direct interaction, I want to make life better for the people around me and inspire others to do the same.
