HMC Architects’ Sergio Lechuga, director of interior design, and Adrienne Luce, vice president of diversity, inclusion, and social impact, and executive director of HMC’s Designing Futures Foundation were named as Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DEIA) Visionaries by the Los Angeles Times.
As the inaugural chair of HMC’s DEI committee, Lechuga has spearheaded the creation of a comprehensive DEI framework that has not only transformed the firm’s culture but also fostered inclusivity and minority leadership. As the director of interior design, Lechuga is at the forefront of implementing a JEDI design process, emphasizing equity in all projects. This approach involves communities and stakeholders in each project to achieve inclusive and impactful outcomes. Lechuga is pivotal in driving positive change, paving the way for an inclusive future within HMC Architects and the entire industry.
In 2020, Luce established HMC’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) committee and was promoted to her current role in 2022. Under her leadership, HMC Architects has emerged as a JEDI trailblazer, accomplishing pay equity based on race and gender while excelling in 80 percent of the AIA’s LFRT JEDI Advocacy Guide actions. She is committed to building an inclusive and equitable workplace, actively promotes thought leadership on JEDI issues, conducts reporting on diversity and pay equity, and spearheads education programs.
