Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) celebrated the completion of its new Kinesiology and Athletics Complex in Walnut, California. The HMC design team, Tilden Coil Construction team, school faculty and students, Congresswoman Norma Torres, the Mt. SAC Board of Education members, and the Citizens Oversight Committee for Bond GO all attended the grand opening of the 110,000 GSF facility.

At Mt. SAC, athletics is a cornerstone of their identity. They have built a reputation in the region for their top-tier athletics programs and next-generation facilities. The new Kinesiology and Athletics Complex replaces the outdated infrastructure with modern facilities that could accommodate the athletic pursuits of 800 athletes across 23 sports. The complex is an environment for champions to thrive, featuring a gymnasium, practice court, long-course competition pool, diving/warmup pool, wellness center, and teaching, meeting, and training spaces.

The gymnasium has main and auxiliary court floors, a weight room, and locker rooms. The two court floors can accommodate competition basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and badminton, with seating for 1,500 on the main floor. The aquatic complex includes a 59-meter (all-deep) competition pool, a 30-meter (shallow to deep) teaching and diving pool, four competition diving boards, a heated therapy pool, and seating for 2,500. The wellness center is a community gym with an indoor running track, exercise equipment, yoga rooms, and multiple classrooms. We designed several trophy cases throughout the complex to celebrate the college’s rich history of award-winning athletic programs and showcase the achievements of past and current athletes.

This is the final project completing Mt. SAC’s Athletics Complex East. HMC has also designed the new Hilmer Lodge Stadium, Heritage Hall, Parking Lot R, and the scoreboard. The school plans to host a full schedule of state championships and CIF games on campus with the new facilities. The new facilities also helped the school secure Nike’s program sponsorship.

HMC is proud to partner with Mt. SAC and provide these fantastic athletic facilities at a community college level. Notably, many students who graduate from the Mt. SAC athletic programs continue their sports journey at Division 1 level programs, and their Mountie pride is always on display. According to Mt. SAC’s Athletic Director, Joe Jennum, he feels immense pride when he visits four-year schools and sees the students walking around campus or playing on fields and courts while proudly wearing their Mt. SAC gear.
