Vacaville USD celebrated the grand opening of Vacaville High School’s new Steve Green Memorial Gym. HMC, district representatives, school faculty and staff, and community leaders gathered to celebrate the milestone with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The 8.800 SF gym honors Steve Green, the late VUSD teacher and coach who embodied the school’s spirit and mission. Built with Measure A funding, the gym seats 400 for school assemblies, basketball games, and school events. With this new gym, student athletes can practice their sports on campus, and will no longer have to travel to off-campus facilities. Additionally, the school can host tournaments and invite schools from around the region. Visually and practically, the new gym is an anchor building on the campus and provides a destination at the end of their existing campus corridor.
RGA + A Studio of HMC Architects started some early programming on the VHS campus with VUSD back in 2015. On the VHS campus, we have added two two-story classroom buildings, new synthetic track and artificial turf field with other stadium improvements, classroom technology, and other miscellaneous upgrades, new storage buildings, and are working on the campus’ music room renovation.
