The Design-Build Institute of America Western Pacific Region (DBIA-WPR) recognized San Diego State University’s Zura Hall Renovation with a merit award at their 2016 Design-Build Awards. The purpose of the Design-Build Awards is to acknowledge the most outstanding design-build projects in the Western Pacific Region area by promoting and recognizing the use and efficiency of design-build as a project delivery method.
The Zura Hall Renovation is the first Collaborative Design-Build project that the California State University system has completed. Our design-build team of Balfour Beatty Construction, San Diego State University, and HMC Architects + Mahlum Architects worked together to completely upgrade and renovate the outdated 1960s housing building, all within a two and a half year time frame. The accelerated schedule was made possible by the nature of the Collaborative Design-Build process that requires the whole team—owner, architect, and contractor—to work together from day one to meet programmatic, budgetary, and design goals.
