The city is rapidly growing and focused on revitalization, with new shops, restaurants, and residential buildings dotting the Downtown landscape. The new building will incorporate the diverse architectural language of existing and in-progress buildings of the civic center, creating cohesion and paying homage to Ontario’s history. Meanwhile, it uses contemporary materials and lightweight construction to create a new landmark destination for the city of Ontario and a defining element of its growth and development. The City Services Building will provide office space to accommodate 345 city employees and seven city departments— Community Life and Culture, The Ontario Police Department, Information Technology, Broadband Infrastructure and Services, Community Improvement, Finance, Human Resources, and the Ontario Public Employee Federal Credit Union. A key consideration during the design was to develop a flexible and adaptable building that would accommodate future changes, expansions, and modifications, ensuring that it can adapt to the evolving needs of the city and its employees. Using innovative design solutions, such as the thoughtful utilization of movable and demountable partitions, Ontario City Services provides a functional and highly efficient building to support public employees and their vital role in the city’s commitment to progress and advancement.
The city’s employees are critical to the city’s development, and the building’s design thoughtfully responds to environmental factors and maximizes building performance to create a thriving, high-performance environment and promotes physical and mental well-being. The design maximizes daylight and views, incorporates healthy materials, mitigates glare, controls noise levels, and provides recreational and social spaces. These elements are essential to promoting physical and mental well-being among employees and visitors, fostering a positive work culture, and creating an inspiring atmosphere for employees to thrive. Additional strategies such as shading devices, daylight controls, and photovoltaics increase building performance, providing the city with a highly efficient building that reduces operating costs. The outdoor plaza incorporates a variety of spaces and greenery, creating a great connection to the civic center and a destination for the building users.
The new Ontario City Services building will undoubtedly be a hub for community engagement, a center for innovation and productivity, and a symbol of Ontario’s commitment to progress and sustainability. This building will reflect the city’s growing reputation as a premier city where to live and work. Inspired by the city’s commitment to growth, the organization of the building creates spaces that are functionally driven and adaptable to the evolving needs of the city and its people. It will ultimately become the center for innovation, community engagement, and productivity.
